White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo
Why do many white people get defensive, upset, and angry when faced with issues surrounding race? In this book, Robin DiAngleo lays out a theory of white sensitivity to race caused by a social environment that protects and insulates white people from race-based stress. Defensive emotions and behaviors serve to reinstate the white racial equilibrium. We will use this book to explore white fragility and discuss how we can build our capacity to have ongoing conversation about race and actively work towards racial justice.
